Equine dentistry
Dr Miesja Reynolds has a special interest in equine dentistry, and has completed further advanced equine dental training especially for equine veterinarians.
All patients examined are sedated and given pain relief if needed.
A powerlight and dental mirror are used to see into the mouth and any problems treated. Routine dental floats (rasping of the teeth) are performed with a ‘quiet’ powerfloat that makes the procedure quick, and hand tools where necessary.
Performance horses or any horse being ridden with a bit usually requires bit seating.
Nerve blocks are used for any extractions, including wolf teeth extraction and other painful procedures.
We can perform radiographs of your horses teeth in-house to quickly assess any dental issues.
Any horses that come into the clinic receive a free session with our dental scope: a specially designed camera for seeing each tooth up close to detect any problems.
We recommend that all horses and ponies have at least one dental checkup, and float if needed per year.
Geldings/colts/stallions can also receive a sheath clean if required at the time of their dental. Our dentals apppintments are also a great time to administer vaccinations which we are happy to provide.
